Rebozo MASSAGE

“mASAJE CON REBOZO”

Also known as manteada, a massage of Mexican origin, practiced in Maya and Nahua regions. It is a relaxing and therapeutic massage performed on the joints to allow for adjustment and improve flexibility; it also works the muscles to relieve pain and release tension.

A rebozo is used to mobilize the joints and muscles of the upper and lower limbs. It is also used to move the energy/emotions accumulated in each joint. In other words, this massage provides both a structural and an emotional adjustment.

Midwives and Curanderos/as use their skill to "adjust" and turn a baby in the mother's womb when it is about to be born and is not in a “good position”; it is also used to close the shoulders and hips (to relieve postpartum discomfort in women a few weeks after giving birth, or even years later). With the help of rebozos, they are tied around the waist to push the baby, or around the arms and hips to align the spine through stretching.
